Goodbye Wendie

I heard yesterday that Wendie Jo Sperber had died. It broke my heart.

She never got her due, I think, as one of the funniest women on television. She is perhaps most famous for playing Amy Cassidy on "Bosom Buddies" alongside Tom Hanks. Some of the best episodes on the show were the ones that focused on Amy and Kip's schemes to get Henry and Sonny (respectively).

I also truly loved her as Pvt. Stacy Kouchalakas on the lesser known "Private Benjamin" television series, and in many movies through the 80's, especially in the classic "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".

She also made a series of popular guest appearances on television sitcoms including Designing Women and Will & Grace. One of the highlights of this list would be her appearance on Murphy Brown as a cancer survivor, having already beaten her first bout with the disease.

I just read about her death this morning, in of all places, the National Review Online. I always thought she was the driving force of Bosom Buddies, followed by Peter Scolari. Why Hanks is famous I do not know.
