Matrimonium - (Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival movie 6)

Last Night: saw two movies. Started with Matrimonium. The festival page is here.

This one is based on the premise that there would be a "gay marriage" themed reality show similar to "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance" wherein a straight man has to convince his parents that he's gay and attend his gay wedding in order to win a million dollars.

Very funny.

It's shot in mockumentary/reality tv style and in fact was done primarily with "improv"-d dialogue ala "Waiting For Guffman". There were some really standout funny performances by Deven Green as "Dre" the hostess of the show and Dotty Carey as the white-trash mother of the gay guy. Of course, it seemed to me that the one shocker they didn't add that they could have would be for the "gay guy" to reveal that he was also straight at the end of the series...

The creators said that they originally shot over 60 hours of footage and the initial cut of this film was over 3 hours. When this DVD comes out (and there are already talks of one), it will be loaded with deleted scenes they say.

I gave it a "great" 'cause I laughed a LOT.
