I finally got a chance to post an old home-movie from back in February 2001 to YouTube...so, for your viewing pleasure, my friend Dawn Calendo drinking the Italian soda Beverly at Ice Station Cool in Epcot:

This was at Epcot at Ice Station Cool, now called Club Cool. It's run by Coca-Cola and they feature sodas from other countries.

The Italian soda Beverly is meant as an aperitif (which is meant to be drunk before a meal to increase appetite). They are generally bitter. This is a very bitter soda.

The joke of the video is that I didn't tell Dawn this and just pointed out that it was an Italian soda (she's Italian).

The others hadn't yet ever been in the Coca-Cola drink tasting thing and I'd already suffered through tasting Beverly on a previous trip. It's kind of a rite of passage for Disney Vacation-Goers.

(there are very GOOD drinks there, though. I really enjoy "Smart Watermelon" from China and "Lychee Mello" from Thailand.)

I can just picture taking a big swig of Quinine water...

Good thing you had the camera handy, those were some great facial expressions.

I had Ken drink that when we went to Disney for his first time. We are so evil to our friends!

Hey :) Thanks for the comment.
I hope your partner is okay, I'm lucky in that my bag hasn't leaked yet (touch wood), sounds like he had a pretty rough time :/
I hope he feels better soon, and I hope you're okay too. It must be pretty stressful for you both. Thinking about you :)

It turns out our biggest problem with that was they never told me about the importance of stoma paste!!

At least now we've gone through more than 24 hours without an incident since applying the paste (again, knock wood).

For now, it's been good that I've had this whole weekend off with him so we could get through this together. Of course, I work the entire next week through (closing at a retail store), so he's going to have to fend for himself a little bit, but it should be good for him to get a little more of his independence back too.

Any other food horrors (like the cabbage) that we should watch out for?

Ah yes, stoma paste :) if his skin gets sore you can also get all sorts of powders and things to put on to stop the enzymes being too irritant.
Well, drinking plenty of water is important, but also your salt levels can be affected so eating plenty of salt is important too. Generally people seem to find fizzy drinks can create lots of gas, and if you eat things like soup it can make it go very liquid. Things that help with that are predominantly marshmallows- they thicken it up, and root vegetables can be hard to digest, so my doctor told me to just make sure I chew everything properly and it should help.
Hope that was useful to you :)
